How does the Chanter build work?
Chanter supports the group through mantra coverage, speed and planned protection while contributing melee damage. Its value depends on coordination: an overlapping Cleric effect does not automatically add a second full benefit, and a protection skill used after the dangerous hit is too late.

Who this build suits
Players who want melee combat with active responsibility for party buffs, recovery and planned survival.
What to watch for
Support coverage and position compete for attention with a melee damage loop. Changing flex slots to offense changes which recovery tools your group can rely on.
What should you check before using this loadout?
These checks apply the Chanter reference-client guide to the choices below. Verify current regional tooltips before relying on an unlock or changing a defensive assignment.
Coordinate mantra coverage with the Cleric
Confirm the overlapping protection effect and its current strength and stacking rules with the Cleric. Do not count two similar labels as two independent benefits. Agree which player covers the effect and what the other slot contributes. Recheck this assignment when either player changes skills or ranks, rather than assuming the first-party setup lasts for every dungeon.
Time speed and protection for different needs
Align Power of the Gale with a useful party damage window, while holding Barrier Spell for the event that justifies protection. Read powerful-attack exceptions in the current tooltip. A protective skill is not a guarantee against every mechanic, and a support action used after the dangerous hit cannot recover the opportunity to prevent it.
Keep the melee loop compatible with recovery
Use Spinning Strike, Dark Crush and available Backdraft Crush opportunities while support responsibilities are covered. Keep Healing Touch and Recuperation deliberate. If Crushing Blow replaces a recovery choice, identify what the party can no longer expect from you. Stay close enough to support allies without letting the melee sequence pull you into an avoidable mechanic.
Starting Stigma loadout
4 equippedThis is a group-PvE starting set from the cited reference-client guide. Keep the core interaction intact and change a flex slot only when the encounter gives you a reason.
Invincibility Mantra
Party damage/protection coverage; coordinate its overlap with Cleric protection.
Power of the Gale
Align party combat speed and cooldown support with useful burst.
Healing Touch
Mobile recovery for nearby party members.
Barrier Spell
A planned party survival window with powerful-attack exceptions.
Situational alternatives
- Crushing Blow. An offensive flex choice when the group has enough recovery.
- Power of Protection. A situational shielding alternative for repeated-hit pressure.
Stigma names are reference labels. Confirm the matching icon and current tooltip in your client before spending upgrade materials.
Core skills and their jobs
Understand why each skill is present before copying an endgame sequence. These are priority interactions, not a claim that the rest of your skill book is unused.
Spinning Strike
Begin the melee damage sequence during safe support downtime.
Dark Crush
Follow the opener in the reviewed damage loop.
Backdraft Crush
Use its real activation opportunities.
Recuperation
Keep recovery available for group needs.
Chanter PvE rotation
A priority sequence is more reliable than a fixed macro when a boss moves, your resources drop or a conditional attack is unavailable.
- 1
Coordinate Invincibility Mantra with the Cleric and align Power of the Gale with a useful party damage window.
- 2
During safe uptime, use Spinning Strike into Dark Crush and spend Backdraft Crush opportunities. Add Crushing Blow only when it is equipped.
- 3
Hold Healing Touch, Recuperation and Barrier Spell for the group's damage pattern. Use a shielding alternative when repeated hits justify it.
Common mistake
Assuming every Cleric and Chanter buff stacks, or spending party protection as ordinary rotation filler.
Why is this Chanter setup not working?
Identify the condition that failed in the encounter before changing the entire bar. The observations below are editorial troubleshooting steps, not measured performance claims.
Coverage is lost while chasing the boss
Check whether movement for melee damage placed you outside the useful support position. Rejoin the party before prioritizing another attack. If teammates relied on a recovery option you removed, restore it or revise the assignment explicitly. An offensive flex choice should be evaluated against the support uptime it costs, not only the damage of its own attack.
Protection does not prevent the expected hit
Check the actual tooltip exception, timing and affected group before treating the skill as broken. Barrier Spell is not described here as universal immunity. Compare its assignment with the encounter mechanic and coordinate another response where needed. Also verify overlapping Cleric effects; adding both to a bar does not prove the party received two stacking protections.
Gear and stat priorities
Choose equipment for the loop you can actually play. The order below is a decision framework; it does not claim measured best-in-slot gear, universal caps or a perfect roll on every slot.
| What to compare | Why it matters for Chanter |
|---|---|
| Support and recovery ranks | Improve the effects your group is actually using. |
| Combat speed | Supports the melee plan; judge it alongside resources and support uptime. |
| Survival and MP reliability | Maintain buff, heal and protection availability through long encounters. |
| Damage rolls | Add offensive value when the party's recovery requirement is already met. |
Before rerolling equipment
Count total skill levels after the replacement, check whether the desired line can appear on that item, and keep enough resources for the next upgrade. A higher displayed combat power is not proof that an item improves this build.
Accuracy and critical needs depend on enemy defenses, buffs and the current regional patch. Use actual encounter results to identify misses or resource problems before paying for a theoretical cap.
Read the gear decision guideLeveling into the build
- Begin with reliable mantra coverage and manual recovery tools. Practice staying close enough to support the party without ignoring melee mechanics.
- Learn the damage sequence while keeping protection available for predictable events.
- Coordinate stronger overlapping support effects and examine total skill ranks before replacing a support roll with a minor damage gain.
A total skill level can include bonuses from equipment and progression systems. Base investment and total level are different numbers; compare both with the specialty requirements displayed in your game.
Understand Stigmas and total skill levelsAdjust for solo play and PvP
Solo and questing
Keep the mantra core and adjust flex choices toward damage only when recovery remains comfortable. Restore the support bar before a group depends on it.
PvP considerations
Support range, defensive positioning and timely group protection become the priority. A damage-only melee sequence leaves little room to answer focused pressure on a teammate.
PvP notes explain adaptation priorities. They are not a separately tested competitive loadout or a current-patch ranking.
Chanter build questions
Does Invincibility Mantra stack with Cleric protection?
The reviewed reference says its overlapping Light of Protection effect does not stack, with strength and tie rules. Verify your region's tooltip and coordinate which player covers it.
Can I replace both recovery flex slots?
An offensive alternative exists, but it changes what protection you can offer. Make that change only when the party has enough recovery.
Should Chanter use Barrier Spell as ordinary rotation filler?
No. Reserve it for the party damage event that justifies the slot, and respect the powerful-attack exceptions shown by the regional tooltip. Keep Healing Touch and Recuperation available for the recovery assignment. Melee damage and Power of the Gale timing should fit around those responsibilities rather than consume every support response immediately.
Is this the best Chanter build for every server?
No. This is a documented starting point. Regional balance, skill names, encounter demands and available ranks can change the correct choices. Use the cited references and current in-game tooltips together.
