How does the Templar build work?
Templar combines threat management with shield-based protection and attacks that need a trigger. Judgment belongs inside its activation window; defensive cooldowns belong on the boss's timeline. Keeping both responsibilities separate is more useful than an uninterrupted damage macro.

Who this build suits
Players who enjoy leading pulls, facing predictable boss attacks and creating safe damage windows for a party.
What to watch for
A defensive skill used too early may be missing for the actual dangerous hit. An offensive alternative also changes what protection your party can expect.
What should you check before using this loadout?
These checks apply the Templar reference-client guide to the choices below. Verify current regional tooltips before relying on an unlock or changing a defensive assignment.
Agree on the opening pull
Confirm where you will hold the enemies and which attacks must face away from the party. Choose the moment for Taunt around that assignment. Damage preparation comes after the pull is controlled; an opening that moves the boss through your allies cannot be repaired by following the offensive sequence more quickly.
Map protection to separate events
Identify the next dangerous hit before using Nezekan's Shield or the group protection option. Avoid treating both skills as routine opening buffs. If you select Noble Armor or Battlefield Banner, explain which defensive contribution has been removed and check that the party can cover the resulting gap. Keep a response for the next event, not only the current one.
Verify the conditional attacks
Check how Punishment and your available shield action enable Judgment in the current client. Keep Vicious Strike available for MP rather than assuming every filler has the same purpose. The reference cooldown interactions for fillers require the corresponding options; verify those before judging a sequence that spends long periods waiting for a priority attack.
Starting Stigma loadout
4 equippedThis is a group-PvE starting set from the cited reference-client guide. Keep the core interaction intact and change a flex slot only when the encounter gives you a reason.
Taunt
Support the assigned tank role and threat control.
Doom Shield
Shield utility and a Judgment trigger.
Nezekan's Shield
Personal protection for a planned damage event.
Shield of Protection
A defensive option for the group setup.
Situational alternatives
- Noble Armor. An offensive alternative when the party does not need this full defensive setup.
- Battlefield Banner. A damage-oriented alternative that needs a safe uptime window.
Stigma names are reference labels. Confirm the matching icon and current tooltip in your client before spending upgrade materials.
Core skills and their jobs
Understand why each skill is present before copying an endgame sequence. These are priority interactions, not a claim that the rest of your skill book is unused.
Punishment
Establish the Executor interaction before priority attacks.
Judgment
Spend an available activation before it expires.
Vicious Strike
Recover MP and support Warding cooldowns when the specialty is selected.
Pummel
Filler with Punishment cooldown support once its option is unlocked.
Templar PvE rotation
A priority sequence is more reliable than a fixed macro when a boss moves, your resources drop or a conditional attack is unavailable.
- 1
Confirm tank duties, then place Taunt and protection around the opening mechanics. Do not spend every defensive skill together.
- 2
Apply Punishment, create a Judgment trigger with the available shield attack, and spend Judgment while it is active.
- 3
Use Vicious Strike for MP and Pummel between priority attacks. Reserve your next shield cooldown for the next threatening hit.
Common mistake
Using every defensive cooldown on pull and having nothing left for the boss's heavy attack.
Why is this Templar setup not working?
Identify the condition that failed in the encounter before changing the entire bar. The observations below are editorial troubleshooting steps, not measured performance claims.
Protection was unavailable when needed
Look back at when each shield was spent. A defensive skill used on a harmless opening may be missing for the actual dangerous hit. Correct the assignment and timing first. If survival still fails with the intended response available, compare the relevant defensive value and skill ranks for that encounter rather than automatically adding another offensive roll.
Damage and tank duties compete
Distinguish a lost Judgment activation from time spent fulfilling a tank mechanic. The latter may be necessary for the party. Re-establish safe facing and control before resuming attacks. Compare resource consistency over the whole fight, and restore the agreed defensive bar after solo questing so that the next group does not inherit an accidental damage-focused setup.
Gear and stat priorities
Choose equipment for the loop you can actually play. The order below is a decision framework; it does not claim measured best-in-slot gear, universal caps or a perfect roll on every slot.
| What to compare | Why it matters for Templar |
|---|---|
| Defensive value for the encounter | Compare what actually reduces the damage you are taking. |
| Relevant skill ranks | Inspect the shield and Judgment options your plan depends on. |
| Damage and threat consistency | Use offensive rolls only after the survival requirement is satisfied. |
| Resource recovery | A reliable filler loop keeps tank actions available during a long fight. |
Before rerolling equipment
Count total skill levels after the replacement, check whether the desired line can appear on that item, and keep enough resources for the next upgrade. A higher displayed combat power is not proof that an item improves this build.
Accuracy and critical needs depend on enemy defenses, buffs and the current regional patch. Use actual encounter results to identify misses or resource problems before paying for a theoretical cap.
Read the gear decision guideLeveling into the build
- First obtain a usable tank bar and enough survival for the next dungeon. Practice facing and moving enemies without turning them into your group.
- Invest in the priority skills you repeatedly use; keep Judgment triggers accessible.
- Reference total-rank 12 filler options support cooldown recovery. Check the actual option text before relying on that interaction.
A total skill level can include bonuses from equipment and progression systems. Base investment and total level are different numbers; compare both with the specialty requirements displayed in your game.

Solo and questing
An offensive setup can speed up safe questing, but retain a defensive answer for elite enemies. Change the bar again before entering a dungeon as the assigned tank.
PvP considerations
Threat tools do not serve the same purpose against players. Build around protection, displacement, target control and timed escape responses, then choose damage only when your group has enough defense.
PvP notes explain adaptation priorities. They are not a separately tested competitive loadout or a current-patch ranking.
Templar build questions
Should a Templar prioritize damage first?
For an assigned group tank, first survive and control the encounter. Add damage when that foundation is reliable.
Can I use the same bar for solo play?
You can keep a defensive bar, but optional offensive swaps may be more efficient. Restore the agreed tank skills before joining group content.
Why is Judgment unavailable in my Templar rotation?
Check the current activation condition, the enabling shield interaction and your selected options. A copied priority list does not create the required trigger. Use the resource filler while the priority attack is unavailable, and avoid spending protection needed for an imminent mechanic merely to imitate a continuous damage sequence.
Is this the best Templar build for every server?
No. This is a documented starting point. Regional balance, skill names, encounter demands and available ranks can change the correct choices. Use the cited references and current in-game tooltips together.
